Executive Chairman of Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Abubakar has directed principals, teachers and staff members of all the 10 schools recently shutdown by the state government over Hijab wearing to resume at their respective schools on Friday (today) March 19, 2021.
In a statement signed by TESCOM Press Secretary, Peter Amogbonjaye, the chairman said, “Any staff that failed to report to their duty posts would face the full wrath of the law as the government would not condone any act of insubordination.”
He warned all stakeholders against taking laws into their hands, emphasising that peace meeting would continue between the government and the stakeholders.
Bello noted that the government regretted the inconveniences the shutdown might have caused the students, saying that the action was taken in the interest of peace.
He also pleaded with parents and the members of the public to remain calm, saying that the government is on top of the situation since its meeting with stakeholders was still ongoing.
Recall there was crisis in Kwara State on Wednesday between parents of Muslim students and those of Christian students of Baptist Secondary School, Surulere, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The crisis which snowballed into Muslims and Christians throwing stones and other objects at each other followed the reopening of 10 mission schools that were shut on February 19 over an argument on female Muslims being allowed to wear hijabs in Christian mission schools.
But the state government, after recently saying that hijabs could be worn in the schools, asked the schools to resume academic activities last Wednesday.
