Rivers: Pro-Fubara lawmakers confirm commissioner nominee amidst political turmoil

In the midst of the ongoing political upheaval in Rivers State, the Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Victor Oko-Jumbo, has successfully screened and confirmed a commissioner nominee forwarded by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The nominee, Dagogo Iboroma, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, underwent rigorous screening on Monday, where he pledged to uphold the rule of law and serve the state diligently, irrespective of the ministry he will be assigned to.

The screening session marked the first legislative assembly since the election of new principal officers, with Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, supported by lawmakers aligned with Governor Fubara, presiding over the proceedings.

Accompanying the Speaker were principal officers and former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, lending an air of gravity to the proceedings.

In his opening address, Speaker Oko-Jumbo commended Governor Fubara for his swift action in providing an auditorium within the government house as a temporary chamber, following the recent fire incident that ravaged the main complex of the state assembly.

Amidst a palpable sense of cooperation, a motion was swiftly moved by the assembly’s leader, Sokari Goodboy, to adopt the auditorium as the new chamber. This paved the way for the Speaker to formally present Governor Fubara’s request for the screening and confirmation of Dagogo Iboroma as a commissioner in the state cabinet.

The confirmation of Iboroma as commissioner comes amidst heightened political tensions in Rivers State, underscoring the determination of the state government to maintain governance continuity despite prevailing challenges.
