Just In: ASUU threatens nationwide strike

In a bold declaration, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has sounded the alarm for a potential nationwide strike, citing the absence of governing councils in all federal universities across the country as a primary concern.

This announcement comes as a culmination of unresolved issues with the government, further exacerbating tensions within the education sector.

ASUU, recalling the federal government’s dissolution of governing councils in universities in May of the previous year, has emphasized the gravity of the situation.

The absence of these councils has left a void in university governance, leading to mounting frustrations among academic staff nationwide.

Speaking at a press conference held at the ASUU national secretariat in Abuja, President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke underscored the urgency of the situation. He urged Nigerians to hold the government accountable for any measures ASUU takes in response to the government’s inaction.

The threat of a nationwide strike looms ominously, serving as a stark reminder of the unresolved issues plaguing the education sector.

ASUU’s steadfast stance reflects the deep-seated concerns among academic staff regarding the state of university governance and the overall welfare of educators and students alike.

As negotiations continue between ASUU and the government, the fate of higher education hangs in the balance.

The specter of a nationwide strike casts a shadow over the academic landscape, underscoring the pressing need for swift and decisive action to address the grievances of the academic community.
