A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday restrained the Ondo State government from investigating the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Akeredolu over allegations made by one Olupelumi Fagboyegun in a viral video.
Olupelumi Fagboyegun, a citizen of the state, in the viral video claimed that he is a stepbrother to the state’s CJ, accusing her of instigating his detention for three years for going to their father’s house.
However, ruling on the matter on Thursday, the court restrained the Ondo State government from probing the matter.
The presiding judge in the matter, Justice Inyang Ekwo, delivering a ruling in a suit filed by the CJ against Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and others described the investigation of the embattled judge as unconstitutional and illegal.
Recall that the state government had ordered Justice Akeredolu to be investigated through the Attorney General over the allegations levelled against her by Fagboyegun.
However, the CJ filed a suit challenging the action of the state government.
While the chief judge is the plaintiff, the Attorney General of the Federation, the National Judicial Council (NJC), Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the Ondo State Attorney General, the state’s House of Assembly and the Inspector General of Police are 1st to 6th defendants respectively in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/2016/2021.
