Department of State Services said it did not torture, President Muhammad Buhari’s official driver, Sai’du Afaka, to death.
The secret police stated this to refute a report Saharareporters. The paper had claimed that the DSS tortured the deceased to death.
According to the online newspaper, Afaka misled Buhari into approving a multi-million naira contract.
It claimed after Afaka’s fraud was discovered that the DSS arrested him, tortured and dumped him at the State House Clinic where he later died.
But in its response in a statement on Wednesday through its spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya, the service denied the report.
The DSS said in the statement titled
‘President’s official driver not detained or tortured by DSS,’ that it does not torture suspects.
“While the said driver was never arrested or detained by the Service, it is a known fact that it does not torture suspects. Its suspect handling method is usually in compliance with the tenets of criminal justice administration system and democracy,” the DSS said.
Afaka’s death was announced on Tuesday by Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu. He said the president’s driver died after a prolonged illness.
