The Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, sparked outrage among Nigerians on Thursday with his list of achievements for his first 100 days in office, which included meetings with the National Security Adviser and APC governors.
Governor Ododo, who assumed office on January 27, 2024, highlighted various engagements under different categories such as governance, agriculture, education, healthcare, and general information.
Among the controversial achievements listed was a meeting with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, raising eyebrows over its inclusion as a milestone in governance.
Additionally, Ododo listed courtesy visits, participation in meetings, and joint sessions with other governors and government officials as accomplishments.
The governor’s list also included administrative actions such as the announcement of appointments, screening and swearing-in of new commissioners, and the launch of security initiatives like the Metropolitan Quick Response program.
In the agricultural sector, Ododo touted efforts in land designation, farmer census, and strategies for crop storage and off-take agreements.
He also emphasized educational initiatives such as the payment of external examination fees, settlement of outstanding student fees, and teacher training programs.
Despite the comprehensive list, many Nigerians expressed dismay over what they perceived as trivial achievements, questioning the significance of meetings and visits in addressing the state’s pressing issues.
Critics called for a focus on tangible developments and meaningful policy implementations rather than ceremonial activities.
The governor’s office has yet to respond to the public backlash, but the controversy surrounding the list underscores the heightened expectations of citizens for impactful governance and accountability.
