Nollywood actress, Uche Ogbodo has said that unmarried women from age 40 should not consider abortion when they are pregnant because they may never be able to conceive again.
The mother of one shared this during an Instagram live session on Wednesday, where she addressed societal pressure women face when it comes to marriage and childbearing.
She used herself as an example, and condemned the stigmatisation of women who have babies out of wedlock in the society.
The actress said she remained unbothered by people’s criticisms about having a baby out of wedlock.
“Many girls between 30 to 40 are dying to be married, to have a family, doing all sort of things so they can have a baby…some of them wait till 45 yet no husband. This is because the society will criticise them for having a baby out of wedlock,” she said.
“You’re aborting a baby at 35 and 40 because of what people would say, are you okay? When you get to 40 and you’re pregnant without a husband, please don’t abort it. If you do who will take care of you when you are old?”
Also she said women must drop the mentality that they must get married at any cost.
“It’s so painful when I see a lot of girls my age, they don’t look beautiful anymore and they were so pretty. I saw one yesterday I had to go back to the page to refresh…she was looking haggard, old and ugly,” she added.
“Please, stop killing your children, especially when you’re of age. Have your kids. If marriage comes, marry oh, if marriage no come, raise your children now. It’s not everyone that must get married.
“I’m 34. I already have a kid. This is going to be my second child. I have a boyfriend who loves me, I’m happy and I’m having my baby.”
Uche Ogbodo started her acting career in 2006, she has a daughter, and also expecting another child.
