At least, three persons who included a motorcyclist, a mother and her baby were crushed to death when a granite-laden truck rammed into a residential building, Monday afternoon, at Ijebu-Ode, in Ogun State.
The accident, which occurred around 2: 30 p.m at the Imepe axis of the ever-busy Lagos Garage in Ijebu-Ode, involved an unmarked Mack Truck which poured its content on the rooms of the residential building, after crushing its victims outside.
First News gathered that the female victim, who carried his daughter, a tot, was standing outside the residential building from where the truck crushed them to death, along with the commercial motorcyclist.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state’s Traffic Enforcement and Compliance Corps (TRACE), Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident, attributed the crash to over-speeding and loss of control on the part of the driver of the truck.
“The granite-laden Mark truck was coming from Ago-Iwoye Quarry axis inbound Ijebu-Ode, around Lagos Garrage axis, at Imepe, when the truck suddenly lost control, due to overspending and reckless driving and entered a building by the road side, killing a motorcyclist and and a woman and her daughter, standing in front of the building at that time.
“Regrettably, the driver of the truck and the motor-boy ran away to avoid being lynched by the angry mob,” Akinbiyi recalled.
He, however, explained that bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the State’s Specialist Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, while rescue operations were still on, to remove the accidented vehicle from the room it entered.
He stressed that the vehicle would be towed to near-by Obalende Police Station.
