Tripartite Committee resumes meeting for new minimum wage

In the ongoing efforts to finalize negotiations for a new national minimum wage, the tripartite committee convened for its fifth meeting at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

The closed-door session brings together key stakeholders, including the Director General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Minister of Labour and Employment (State) Nkiruka Onyejeocha, Governor of Imo State Hope Uzodimma, and representatives from the Salaries, Income, and Wages Commission, alongside Ministers of Finance and Budget and National Planning.

During the previous meeting held on Thursday, committee members expressed optimism about announcing a figure by the end of the current session.

This development follows a week-long suspension of the organized labour’s industrial action to facilitate negotiations and seek resolution.

The expectation is that the committee will present a proposal to the National Assembly, aiming to address the pressing issue of a new national minimum wage.

The negotiations signify a crucial step forward in addressing the wage concerns of workers across various sectors.

The outcome of these deliberations holds significant implications for both employees and employers nationwide, as the committee works towards striking a balance that ensures fair compensation while considering the broader economic landscape.
