There are palpable fears at the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt as suspected cultists killed a student in the school on Thursday morning.
First News gathered that trouble started when the cultists stormed a cafeteria near the faculty of management science about 9:22am and shot one of the students with a gun.
The student, who is yet to be identified as at the time of filing this story, reportedly died on the spot despite efforts by his colleague to save his life.
“He died on the spot and the situation caused serious panic. Students and people started running helter-skelter and we are writing exams now,” an eyewitness said.
The incident was confirmed by the state Public Relation Officer of the university, Harcourt Whyte, who said that the cultists had been “arrested” adding that the “police are investigating” the incident.
The state police could not be reached as of press time.
