Rivers State is peaceful —Fubara says amidst political unrest

Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, has affirmed that the state is not under siege despite recent political turmoil.

Speaking on Friday during the inauguration of new construction projects, Governor Fubara emphasized the peaceful environment prevailing in Rivers.

“Rivers state is peaceful. You can see that we are moving about inspecting projects, contrary to what is portrayed on television screens that police presence is overwhelming and movement restricted,” Governor Fubara stated.

He reassured the public, stating, “We are not under siege. Our state is free. Any issues in the state originate elsewhere, not from us.”

Governor Fubara highlighted the peace-loving nature of Rivers residents, noting, “Our actions and deeds demonstrate our commitment to peace. We will uphold this peace for the benefit of all Rivers people.”

His remarks come amidst ongoing political unrest in the oil-rich state, particularly concerning disputes over the tenure of local government chairpersons and legal challenges involving the state assembly.

Despite these challenges, Governor Fubara’s administration remains focused on maintaining stability and fostering development across Rivers State.
