IGP orders continuation of police barricade at Rivers LG secretariats amid crisis

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has instructed the ongoing police barricade at local government secretariats in Rivers State to persist, aiming to forestall any potential disorder.

The directive was issued during a press interaction in Abuja, held on the sidelines of a conference involving commissioners of police and senior officers.

IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the police presence will endure at these locations until a competent court delivers a definitive judgment on the crisis affecting local governance in Rivers State.

Regarding concerns raised over the recruitment of constables and recent allegations from the Police Service Commission (PSC), the IGP asserted that the Force’s management remains resolute against the entry of inadequately qualified individuals into the police service.

Egbetokun underscored that the Nigeria Police Force functions as a specialized institution tailored for specific roles, indicating that not all Nigerians are suited for service within its ranks.

The IGP’s statements highlight the police force’s proactive stance amid ongoing legal and operational challenges in Rivers State, underscoring the commitment to uphold law and order amidst turbulent circumstances.
