Reps to revamp govt agencies based on Oronsaye report

The House of Representatives Special Ad hoc Committee on Restructuring of Government Agencies and Commissions is gearing up to revisit the Steven Oronsaye Report of 2012, with a focus on enhancing efficiency and cost-effectiveness in federal agencies.

During a press briefing at the National Assembly in Abuja, the committee clarified that its mandate does not include staff rationalization, dispelling concerns about potential retrenchment measures.

Chairman of the Committee, Ibrahim Ayokunle Ishiaka, alongside other panel members, highlighted the importance of the Oronsaye Report.

“It is crucial for us to review the recommendations from the Oronsaye Report and other relevant White Papers. This ensures that our government structures are aligned with current realities, best practices, and the evolving needs of our society,” Ishiaka stated.

The 2012 Oronsaye Report proposed significant reforms to streamline government agencies, aiming to boost operational efficiency and reduce costs. The committee will review approximately 110 organizations as part of this initiative.

Ishiaka emphasized the committee’s goals: “As the world evolves rapidly, it’s imperative that our government agencies and commissions are structured to effectively fulfill their mandates. Through this review process, our objective is to identify redundancies, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement within federal government agencies and commissions. We aim to streamline operations, eliminate duplications, enhance service delivery, and optimize resource allocation through legislative measures.”

He added, “This comprehensive review will consider diverse perspectives and expertise to ensure thorough evaluation and effective reform.”

The committee’s review will involve examining the recommendations of the Oronsaye Report and other relevant documents to ensure government agencies are well-positioned to meet contemporary challenges and deliver effective services to the public.
