Gunmen abduct 20 travelers on Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway

No fewer than 20 travelers were on Sunday abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. as the travelers were ambushed between the Sagamu Area Command of the Nigeria Police and Ilisan township.

One of the victims, a resident of Ilisan Remo, managed to escape despite being shot in the knee. The victim is currently receiving medical attention at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital and is in stable condition.

Otunba Wemmy Osude, Chairman of the Ilisan Development Council, confirmed the incident.

“Information reaching me right now confirmed a kidnapping incident between the Area Command and Ilisan City Gate (formerly Delabo). A resident of Ilisan was reportedly shot in the knee and is receiving medical attention at Babcock Teaching Hospital. He is in stable condition. Other victims were taken into the bush,” he said.

Osude urged caution and advised contacting loved ones who might be traveling on that road.

“Please contact your loved ones who may be plying that road at about this time to be cautious,” he advised.

Expressing hope for the safe rescue of the abducted individuals, Osude said he had reported the incident to the Sagamu Area Commander.

“I have spoken to the Sagamu Area Commander about this incident, and hopefully, we trust that all the security agents will go after these criminals and rescue these people,” he added.

As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, had not responded to calls.

The situation remains under investigation as security agents mobilize to rescue the victims.
