Emir Sanusi defies police ban, conducts mini durbar in Kano

Amidst the ongoing Emirship dispute in Kano, Emir Muhammad Sanusi II proceeded to conduct a mini durbar at Gidan Shettima Palace in Kofar Kwaru, defying a ban imposed by the Kano State Police Command earlier.

The reinstated Emir Sanusi II and the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero led separate Eid el-Kabir prayers on Sunday at different prayer grounds in the state.

Emir Sanusi II conducted prayers inside the Kofar Mata Juma’at Mosque alongside Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, due to rain, while Emir Bayero prayed at the Nassarawa Mini Palace Mosque.

Following the prayers, Emir Sanusi II proceeded to Gidan Shettima Palace where he conducted a mini durbar, disregarding the ban on durbar activities previously announced by the Kano State Police Command.

Governor Yusuf, who prayed behind Emir Sanusi II, urged residents to remain calm and peaceful amidst the ongoing developments.

“The police in the state did not consult me before taking a decision to ban the colourful durbar activities,” Governor Yusuf stated, emphasizing his lack of involvement in the police’s decision-making process.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Yakasai, a former commissioner in the state who prayed alongside Emir Bayero, expressed gratitude for the prevailing peace in Kano despite the emirship dispute.

The defiance by Emir Sanusi II against the police ban highlights the tension and complex dynamics surrounding the emirship tussle in Kano, as stakeholders navigate legal and traditional intricacies.
