EFCC chief orders arrest of officers over nighttime raid on Lagos hotel

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has directed the arrest of two EFCC officers accused of manhandling a female staff member during a nighttime raid at Regional Hotel in Ojo, Lagos.

The incident came to light through a viral video showing EFCC officials, dressed in plain clothes, forcefully entering one of the hotel rooms. This footage has sparked public outrage and calls for accountability.

In his statement, EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren clarified the circumstances surrounding the operation.

“The incident happened during an early morning sting operation,” he said, noting that the raid led to the arrest of a sizable number of suspects who are still being profiled.

Reacting to the public outcry, Olukoyede emphasized the EFCC’s commitment to professionalism and accountability.

“The EFCC’s boss has also ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out at the hotel and assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any of the officers found to be culpable,” Uwujaren stated.

Olukoyede also reassured the public that the EFCC would continue to ply its job professionally and with profound respect for the rule of law.
