EFCC boss initiates disciplinary action against officers accused of assault

In a decisive move aimed at upholding integrity and professionalism within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede has launched a disciplinary inquiry into allegations against two of the agency’s officers.

The officers, caught in a viral video, are accused of assaulting a female employee during a sting operation at Regional Hotel in Lagos.

The incident, which occurred during an early morning operation on Thursday, June 27, 2024, sparked widespread outrage after footage of the assault circulated online.

In response, Olukoyede swiftly ordered the arrest of the officers and directed them to appear before a joint disciplinary team comprising the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee (APDC) and the Department of Ethics and Integrity.

Scheduled for Monday, July 1, 2024, at the EFCC’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, the disciplinary hearing aims to thoroughly investigate the officers’ conduct and recommend appropriate actions.

According to EFCC Head of Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the team will meticulously examine the case to ensure justice is served.

Olukoyede emphasized a commitment to holding accountable those who breach professional standards within the agency.

“No stone will be left unturned in getting the officers to account for their unprofessional conduct,” the statement affirmed.

The move underscores EFCC’s dedication to maintaining public trust and upholding ethical standards in its operations, ensuring incidents like these are swiftly addressed with transparency and accountability.
