…say ‘we’ve placed them under close security watch’
. Police lying, plotting to divide Yoruba, ‘Biafrans’ – IPOB leader, Kanu
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, says the state Police Command has placed 24 Oodua Republic secessionist groups and the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra under close watch over threats by IPOB to attack soft targets in the state.
He disclosed that the 24 Yoruba secessionist groups had been identified and along with IPOB, were now being closely monitored by the police in the state.
But in a swift reaction, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, accused the police of lying and fuelling division between the Yoruba and the ‘Biafrans’ with its allegation against his group.
Odumosu said that the Oodua secessionist groups and IPOB were already being investigated by the police in Lagos to stop them from making good their threats to carry out any attack in the state.
The Lagos police boss disclosed this while speaking at a security summit chaired by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Odumosu said, “The Command has taken notice of agitators for Oodua Republic by some Yoruba separatist groups and the threats to disrupt law and order in the state. 24 of these groups have been identified and being closely monitored.
“Similarly, the threat of IPOB to attack soft targets in Lagos is equally being put on the radar of the command intelligence gathering and other security services in the state. Strategies are being put in place to neutralise their activities.
“The Command is using this medium to solicit for the support of all and sundry to be vigilant at all times and report any suspicious person or movement to security agencies. Let us adopt the slogan of “when you see something, say something.”
The Lagos police commissioner also advised the state government to put in place urgent measures against the activities of commercial motorcycles riders, popularly known as Okada in the state.
But Kanu in his reaction through his official Twitter handle, dismissed the allegation by the police commissioner as a lie and a plot to fuel division.
“The public is hereby notified that the allegations that IPOB is plotting to attack Lagos is a LIE. Lagos State CP, Hakeem Odumosu who made the allegation is a former CSO to Tinubu & their intention is to fuel division between Yorubas & Biafrans. It won’t work. This is not 1967!” he tweeted.
