Oyo State Police Command has paraded five suspected bandits and cultists terrorizing some communities in Ibadan metropolis and students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
The Police Commissioner, Ngozi Onadeko said three of the suspects were arrested in Ibadan while the remaining two who were alleged to be terrorizing the students of LAUTECH were arrested in Ogbomoso.
She gave the identities of those arrested in Ibadan as; Akeem Ishola, Mutahiru Animasaun and Sheriff Salawu.
Items recovered from the suspects according to Onadeko included a cash sum of Forty-Four Thousand Naira (N44,000.00).
She disclosed that the suspects on 28th May, 2021 invaded the residence of one Ben Ama at Oke-Seni area of Ibadan.
Onadeko added that the suspects took the victim’s cell phone, a set of home theater and one Zenith Bank ATM.
She further disclosed that an ATM belonging to the victim was used to withdraw a total sum of five hundred and seventy-two thousand naira only (N572,000.00) at a Point of Sales shop.
The Police report stated that “On 28th May, 2021 at about 1300hrs, three notorious hoodlums armed with guns and other dangerous weapons invaded the residence of one Ben Ama ‘m’ at Oke-Seni area of Ibadan.
“The victim was disposed off his cell phone, a set of home theater and one Zenith Bank ATM which was used to withdraw a total sum of Five Hundred and Seventy-Two Thousand Naira only (N572,000.00) at a Point of Sales shop within the community while being held hostage in his abode at gunpoint.
“Discreet investigation by operatives of the Command’s Monitoring Unit led to the arrest of Akeem Ishola ‘m’ and Mutahiru Animasaun ‘m’ in connection with the crime.
“Upon interrogation, one Sherif Salawu ‘m’ a co-worker with the victim confessed to have masterminded the plot along with his cohorts through confessional statements.
“Investigation is still in progress to unravel more circumstances behind the incident.”
In a related development, the Commissioner of Police has disclosed the arrest of suspected cultists who were members of “a notorious armed robbery syndicate” that invaded LAUTECH students’ hostel at Under-G area of Ogbomoso.
They were alleged to have committed offences, ranging from armed robbery, house breaking and obtaining money under false pretences.
Onadeko said that the suspected cultists had on March 20, at about 10.00 p.m, while armed with guns and Jack knives, attacked a student, and dispossessed him of his I-phone and siphoned N1 million cash from his account.
She said that the hoodlums also attacked other students of the institution and dispossessed them of their expensive cell phones, cash and other valuables.
