A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party left behind by late Senator Buruji Kashamu in Ogun State has been torn apart over leadership crisis.
The members, who are now in various groups, have taken to suspending one another for alleged anti-party activities.
A few months ago, the State Chairman of the party, Samson Bamgbose and five other executive members were suspended by a group in the party, which installed one Barrister Boladale Sanni as the acting chairman.
The development was rejected by Bamgbose and his people, saying the group had no power to suspend them.
In what could be termed a new turn, the Bamgbose-led group came up with the suspension of the acting chairman of the party, Boladale Sanni and the other two chieftains of the party.
This was announced in a statement signed by one Ajayi Abayomi, who was identified as the PDP acting State Publicity Secretary.
According to the statement, “This is to inform the General Public that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Ogun State Executive Committee (SEC) under the Chairmanship of Chief Samson Bamgbose met and considered the report of the Disciplinary Committee headed by Mr. Bola Odumosu, after robust deliberation, approved the suspension of the following State Executive Members: Mr. Adeleke Shittu, Mr. Boladale Sanni and Mr. Sunkanmi Oyejide.
“They were suspended for various anti-party activities as recommended by the Committee in accordance with Section 58 and 59 of Our Party’s Constitution, as such, they remain barred from parading themselves as PDP State Executives Members,” the statement read in part.”
Meanwhile, the group immediately announced the appointment of Raphael Olaosebikan as the acting State Secretary; Ajayi Abayomi as the Acting Publicity Secretary and Matthew Adesiyan as the Acting Chairman, Yewa North LGA.
Recall that Kashamu died of COVID-19 complications in August 2020.
Until his death, he was the was the major financier of the PDP in Ogun State, holding the reins of control of the party in the state.
Kashamu also contested for the governorship seat in 2019 on the platform of the Ogun PDP.
