Rivers State Governor Simi Fubara on Tuesday received the chairman and members of the Rivers State House of Representatives Committee on Ports and Harbours.

The meeting focused on key issues related to the rehabilitation and expansion of port facilities in the state.

Governor Simi expressed his appreciation for the committee’s expertise and enthusiasm.

“We had a wide-ranging discussion that centered on the ongoing efforts of rehabilitating and expanding the Port facilities in our State,” the governor said.

“I truly admired their depth of knowledge and enthusiasm as they are poised to give their best to improving our economy, especially in repositioning our state to tap into the enormous potentials of the blue economy of which Rivers State is the main catchment area.”

In addition to port development, the meeting also addressed a recent conflict between the Ipo community and the management of the Port Harcourt International Airport Authority.

Governor Fubara noted that they had “the privilege of intervening in the conflict over some unresolved development issues that led to the community protest earlier today.”

The governor’s proactive engagement with both the committee and local community issues underscores his commitment to fostering economic growth and resolving conflicts through dialogue and cooperation.
