Fubara scraps Wike’s 10,000 jobs plan, promises transparent recruitment

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced the cancellation of the 10,000 jobs in the state civil service approved by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, promising a new recruitment process.

Governor Wike had approved the immediate employment of a significant number of youths before leaving office, aiming to fill existing vacancies in the state’s workforce.

However, Governor Fubara, in an interactive session with stakeholders in Port Harcourt, explained that the recruitment process was flawed and compromised. He expressed disappointment that many selected names were politically motivated.

“When we subjected those names to proper scrutiny, most of those names, in fact, 60 per cent of those names were over-aged… brought for political patronage,” Governor Fubara stated.

He emphasized the need for employment for the future, questioning the rationale behind hiring individuals nearing retirement age.

Governor Fubara reassured the people of Rivers State of his commitment to governance, highlighting the importance of a healthy relationship between the administration and the citizens.

He urged service providers to ensure prompt clearance of waste from the streets, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a clean environment.

The governor’s remarks were conveyed by Dr. George Nwaeke, the Head of Rivers State Civil Service, during a meeting with leaders and members of the RIWAMA Service Providers Association at the Government House Gate in Port Harcourt.
