Former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has been freed after spending two days in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Okorocha on Tuesday honoured the commission’s invitation in its office in Abuja. The former governor, who currently represents Imo West at the Senate, was kept back by the commission, who grilled him for two days before setting him free on Thursday.
The commission questioned him for
two days over several allegations of corrections levelled against him.
He was said to have been involved in corruption practices between 2011 to 2019, when he served as Imo State governor.
Among the allegations against Okorocha include a report by an Imo State government committee, which said it uncovered N112.8 billion “dubious debts” owed various banks by Okorocha-led government of the state.
Confirming Okorocha’s released from custody, the senator’s media aide,
Sam Onwuemeodo, said in a statement on Thursday:
“With gratitude to God Almighty, we are delighted to inform the general public that the former governor of lmo State, and by the grace of God, the Senator representing lmo West senatorial district, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, is out of the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and he is now in his house.
“He left the commission’s office on the afternoon of Thursday, April 15, 2021.”
