Terrorists abduct ‘20 residents’ in violent Abuja community attack

Terrorists, commonly referred to as bandits, launched a violent attack on the Dawaki community near Kubwa in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Sunday evening, kidnapping approximately 20 people.

The assault, which took place between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., has left the local residents in shock and fear.

A resident, speaking anonymously for security reasons, recounted the harrowing experience.

“The incident happened yesterday between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Location – Dawaki by News Engineering (urban shelter) at Fulani junction. Heavily armed bandits numbering approximately 50 men and women,” the source said.

The attackers reportedly broke into about six houses, forcibly taking occupants through the mountainous terrain surrounding the area.

“About 15-20 people were taken away. I was at the mosque when I received the distress call about the sound of guns. Some vehicles were shot at and houses broken into,” the resident added.

As of the time of reporting, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comments or updates on the situation.

While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, various armed groups operate in states neighboring Abuja, contributing to the escalating insecurity in the region.

This incident underscores the growing threat of banditry and terrorism in and around Nigeria’s capital, raising concerns about the safety of residents and the effectiveness of security measures in place.
