‘End Rivers crisis now,’ Niger Delta group demands action, urges Tinubu to intervene

The 21st Century Youths of Niger Delta and Agitators with Conscience (21st CYNDAC) have issued a fervent plea for swift action to resolve the escalating political crisis in Rivers State, warning of dire consequences if left unchecked.

In a strongly worded statement by Izon Ebi, leader of 21st CYNDAC, the group condemned ongoing skirmishes among political actors in Rivers State, describing them as pushing the state towards anarchy.

Emphasizing that elections are over and the time for governance has commenced, Ebi highlighted the detrimental impact of distracting the Rivers State government under Siminalayi Fubara’s leadership.

“The 1999 Constitution as amended unequivocally asserts that states and their resources belong to the people, not to any individual or group seeking to hijack power,” Ebi asserted, emphasizing the group’s staunch resolve to resist any such attempts.

The statement also called upon the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, and the National Judicial Council (NJC) to investigate and address alleged judicial misconduct contributing to political instability.

Furthermore, the group appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu to uphold the constitution and intervene decisively in the Rivers State crisis.

They underscored the strategic importance of Rivers State as Nigeria’s treasure base, cautioning that instability there could reverberate across the entire Niger Delta region.

“The deliberate actions of politicians and rogue state actors must be condemned by all stakeholders if peace and progress are to prevail in Rivers State,” the statement continued, urging unity in safeguarding recent developmental strides in the state.

Highlighting recent infrastructural achievements and a significant increase in internally generated revenue under Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration, the group emphasized the need to protect and build upon these gains.

The 21st CYNDAC reiterated their commitment to ensuring stability and progress in Rivers State, urging collective efforts towards restoring peace and adherence to democratic principles.

As tensions persist, stakeholders and citizens await further developments and government responses to address the pressing issues raised by the Niger Delta group.
