Liverpool-owned striker, Taiwo Awoniyi opened his goal scoring account for Union Berlin as they registered a 2-1 road win against Cologne at the RheinEnergieStadion on Sunday evening.
The former Nigeria U23 international spent 220 minutes on the pitch in total spread across six matches before scoring his first goal in Union Berlin’s colours.
Twenty seven minutes in, Awoniyi won the battle with Cologne’s centre backs and shot past goalkeeper Horn to break the deadlock.
Shkiri equalised for the home team before Max Kruse netted what proved to be the winning goal, smashing in the rebound after his penalty was saved at minute 71.
Two minutes after Kruse’s strike, Awoniyi was replaced by Cedric Teuchert.
Elsewhere, Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has taken his tally for the season to ten goals after scoring
Racing Genk’s third goal in their impressive 4-1 win over Royal Excel Mouscron.
With his 63rd minute effort, the Nigerian is the joint highest scorer in the Belgian First Division A along with Beerschot’s Holzhauser after 13 rounds.
Onuachu made way for fellow Nigeria international, Cyriel Dessers three minutes from time.
