Police in Ogun may arraign the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Oludare Kadiri, over alleged violent conduct during the All Progressives Congress’ registration and revalidation exercise in the state.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Sunday said the Deputy Speaker would be arraigned in court if the complainants failed to opt for out-of-court settlement.
Kadiri allegedly led suspected hoodlums to invade the residence of the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, in Oru Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state.
The Deputy Speaker was also alleged to have led thugs to invade residence of a former legislator, Adebiyi Odugbesan.
The lawmaker was detained for about two days at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
He was said to have accused the SSG and Adegbesan of hoarding the registration materials for the ongoing APC registration.
The police, which had invited all warring factions from the local government, later detained the deputy speaker after hearing from all parties concerned.
It was gathered that Kadiri, who was held for about 48 hours, was later released on self-recognition.
According to the PPRO, “Preliminary investigation so far revealed that the deputy speaker is culpable of all the allegations (against him).
“It is likely (we arraign him in court) except if those who brought those allegations against him opt to settle out of court. If not, he would be arraigned in court.”
