The Commandant of the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), Retired Col. Olayinka Olayanju, on Monday said that Ibarapa area of Oyo state ‘is now free’ from the activities of killer herdsmen.
In a statement in Ibadan on Monday, Olayinka explained that peace had been restored to the area with farmers returning back to their various farms for activities.
Further debunking reports on social media that the security situation in the region is worsening, he said: “I am in Aiyete and I‘ve been moving around Ibarapaland freely, no one has reported any adverse security issues to me.
“No security challenges observed in Ibarapa Central and North contrary to rumours being peddled.” Recall that the state government recently deployed 200 operatives of the security outfit to forestall the activities of the criminals terrorising the area.
The state governor, Seyi Makinde, while announcing the development, said, “These operatives will launch missions to rid the forests of criminals. They will be presenting daily reports of their activities to me in the short run and periodic reports in the long run”.
