Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has urged Nigerians not to vote for any candidate older than 60 years in the 2023 presidential election.
By the statement, it is clear Tambuwal is asking Nigerians not to vote for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who is above 60, should he eventually run for the office of the presidency in 2023.
Other politicians who have already declared, who Tambuwal by the implication of his comment is asking Nigerians not to vote for, include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu. The two presidential aspirants are well above 60 years of age.
Tambuwal, 56, believed to be interested in the 2023 presidential race, spoke in Jigawa State on Tuesday after the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), in the 19 northern states “endorsed” his ambition.
The Sokoto State governor and major opposition Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, who was represented at the event by his Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Bashir Usman said:
“Young Nigerians are the owner(s) of the country, any person above 60 years is surviving to meet God Almighty – he is not surviving to lead a nation.
“We need a president that is agile, who can travel across Nigeria in a day to get first hand information on issues bedeviling Nigerians, not a president who will sit in the comfort of his office awaiting censored information from people.”
He also called on Nigerians not to vote for people living with age-related illnesses.
He urged Nigerian students to keep on demanding for the reopening of their schools, shut down over ASUU strike. within the shortest time possible.
Noting that university lecturers embarked on strike under every administration due to lack of political will to address the issues raised by the university’s lecturers, Tambuwal said that the dispute between the Nigerian government and ASUU is a cause for concern for all right-thinking Nigerians.
