Nigeria’s former minister of finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been assigned as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.
Okonjo-Iweala’s appointment was confirmed by WTO at a General Council meeting following a nomination procedure of eight candidates from around the world.
The tweet read: “Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from Nigeria is appointed as the next WTO Director-General.
” Her term starts on the 1st of March 2021.”
She will be the first woman and first African to head the WTO.
