Listening to jingles on radios has been pissing me off since we entered the month of February, no hard feelings, I am only worried about the ladies with no BOO.
So, seeing all the great gifts like lingeries, flowers, sex toys, iPhones and some other gift items, makes me antsy. This is due to the fact that I have no one to send me gifts. More so, social media has made us understand there is an association for the #booless ladies/guys in the world.
While scrolling through my phone, I found myself on Tom’s guide blog, where Valentine’s Day gift for 2021, were highlighted with exquisite and expensive prices for gadgets, dfferent designers foot wears, Disney plus gift cards, Alexa devices and prices of some exquisite wines.
The funniest jingle I have heard so far, was about a babe asking her boo how the Val celebration will be this year which made me realise that lovers are still conscious of the fact that Covid-19 is still around and this year’s celebration comes with rules. This has never happened before.
Valentine has been tagged as special day for just lovers; legally married, those in courtship, young boyfriend and girlfriend as long as it’s with an opposite sex, to celebrate with their lovers.
Valentine’s Day, also called St. Valentine’s Day, is a special day set aside every February 14, whereby lovers show affections with words, be it in form of poem or using beautiful memories to acknowledge one another’s devotion and efforts in a relationship.
Advice, relatives should not be left behind, that is, love should not be restricted to that one person you are intimate with.
Over the years, society and most especially social medias, has made people believe that Valentines is basically for those who are in a relationship and make those without lovers depressed. You hear a song with depressing lyrics on social medias like, “Valentine is coming, where is your boy friend? You are sitting at home. Lonelyyyy.” What a song!.
Having fun on Valentines Day should not be attached to being in a romantic relationship or drive one into desperation. It should also not make one to start looking for an urgent boyfriend or girlfriend before the arrival of Valentine’s Day, so you can have your special someone to flaunt too.
Meanwhile, for ladies with no BOO, below are ways you can have a fun and fabulous Valentine celebration with or without having a partner and also save yourself the stress of looking for your monthly flow after the 14th of February:
1. Make a date with your other single friends: Celebrating the day with your friends and make arrangement on visiting the best places in town or a nice cozy restaurant, cinema, fun-park, even a concert. Order some exotic wines and giggle away your worries with friends while you cling to your wine glasses. You and your clique can do those things you’ve been wanting to do for a while this Valentine, like go do karaoke with your friends even when you know your voice sounds like that of an old man that smokes pipes. But who cares anyway? Grab the mic and sing away like John Legend. Take some tequila shots, but remember to drink responsibly. You do not want to embarrass yourself out there.
2. Look out for cozy restaurant: Remember, trying to enjoy the Valentine’s Day by yourself shouldn’t make you empty your savings account. Look out for an affordable and cozy restaurant nearby, check out their menu list and the price attached, so you don’t end up washing plates after eating. Also eat something you are familiar with, I’m not saying trying new delicacy is bad but it is safer to stick to what your stomach is used to or can accommodate so as not to ruin your evening by ending up in the rest room.
3. Meditation: You know what else you can do while the whole world is hugging and kissing? Meditation!. Thank goodness Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday. After praising and praying to your creator; either in the Islamic way or Christianity. Curl up on your bed and meditate on the word of God, re-evaluate your life and use that alone time for checks and balances. See where you are falling short and how you can improve every aspect of your life.
4. Reading up on Valentine: If you have been wondering perhaps how Valentine came about. Then this is also the time to read up on google how the innocent Priest Valentine was murdered by Emperor Claudius ll Gothicus, ruler of the Roman empire in the third century for marrying young soldiers in love in secret against a ban placed on marriage by the emperor. This is one of the many other things you can find on how Valentine’s Day come about.
Meanwhile, I won’t tell you the rest of the story so that you can use this day to learn more about the Saint, who brought about this day the whole world is celebrating.
5. Physical touch: If you are a hugger, with the Covid-19 rule and social distancing, you might be contemplating how to give somebody a big hug this month of love. So, make sure you hug people in your household as it will go a long way in calming your nerves and assuring yourself that what ever happens, these people will be there to hug you. Wake up on Valentine morning and hug mama, a favourite sibling, roommate or Mr Jack: your teddy bear.
6. Spoil yourself: Have you been saving up to buy a PS5 or a new wig or that nice shoes you saw at the store the other day. This is the right time darling. Buy that gift for yourself, who says you can’t spoil yourself too. I think we need to take a lesson from Mr Bean on that. Remember the scene, where he wrapped up a gift for himself and unwrapped it with surprise expression. LOL!
It’s always about making yourself happy, never forget that.
7. Hanging out with family: Family first they say and yes, family comes first in our lives. This Valentine’s Day, make plans for your family. Either you volunteer to cook the house a special meal of curry sauce and basmati rice or simply make a reservation in one of those nice and affordable restaurants. I’d suggest the latter. Everyone on a round table, dining and wining. Taking turns to tell childhood memories sounds like the perfect family Valentines.
8. Charity: Don’t forget there are other special people that deserve to have a taste of what special love is. The less privileged, those beautiful kids in motherless home too. Sending them gifts or spending quality time with them is another way to spend your Valentine’s Day. Giving is peaceful and God always reward a cheerful giver. Giving to these kids wholeheartedly and not for a show off in the media will bring you that inner tranquility.
9. Words of affirmation: Taking it back to the good old ways won’t be a bad idea. Remember the pen friends type of writing. This Valentine send a handwritten letter to a friend far away, or your sweet colleague in the office let them know you’re thinking of them. Another way is to send a sweet voice note complimenting them, acknowledge their existence in your life and speak words that brighten their faces and lift their spirit.
This is very important, be careful with activities you engage yourself with this valentine. Adhere strictly to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control instructions on this deadly disease called Covid. You may add 19.
Tempted to conclude by saying, the best way to celebrate this Valentine is to lumber with the people you live with or make the celebration virtual if loved ones are far away.
Happy Valentine’s day! You are special and you are loved.
