…says Obaseki breached oath of office multiple times

Former deputy governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, in a recent interview opened up about his impeachment experiences and future plans.
He discussed his initial reluctance to accept the deputy governor position, predicting potential issues with Governor Godwin Obaseki. Despite his concerns, Shaibu accepted the role out of respect for Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Shaibu expressed his strong alliance with the Legacy Group and hinted at possibly joining another party if the PDP fails to address his concerns. He emphasized his commitment to activism and fighting for the people, even if it means leaving the PDP. Shaibu also mentioned that he has forgiven Obaseki for his role in his impeachment and is open to reuniting with Oshiomhole, whom he considers a mentor and father figure.
When asked about activists entering politics and abandoning their principles, Shaibu emphasized the importance of staying true to one’s values and fighting for the people. He believes that institutions should be stronger than individuals and that he has always remained consistent in his activism.
Regarding his impeachment, Shaibu stated that he predicted the outcome and had prepared himself. He believes the oath of office has been breached multiple times by Governor Obaseki and that his own impeachment was unjust. Shaibu chose not to attend the panel hearing due to a court order and has proposed amendments to the constitution to protect deputy governors from arbitrary impeachment.
Shaibu expressed his disapproval of godfatherism in politics, defining it as imposing one’s will without seeking others’ opinions. He desires leadership that unites and listens, rather than bullies. He also emphasized the need for strong institutions and egalitarian societies.
Shaibu remains committed to his activism and fighting for the people, even if it means leaving the PDP or facing challenges in his political journey.
