Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare has warned that marginalisation of Igbos in the country would not help the unity of the country.
He said the marginalisation of Igbos and other ethnic groups must stop if the government genuinely cares for unity and progress.
The cleric, who spoke while commemorating June 12 Democracy Day, said Nigeria has a chance of returning to national ideals through reconciliation, reconstitution and reconstruction.
He, however, advised that the historical grievances, including, “the lingering memories of inhumane treatment, economic deprivation, marginalisation and non-inclusion of the Igbos that have festered since the end of the civil war,” should stop.
According to him, the worrisome situation had led to the current secession and self-determination by different groups in the South West and South East and the bitterness and vengeance among some Fulanis and their host communities.
He also raised an alarm over what he described as discontent in the Niger-Delta region as a result of continued environmental degradation and the history of bloodshed such as the killing of advocates like Ken Saro-Wiwa.
He said that the government must listen to the plight of the people to move the country forward.
