Following the recent arrest of alleged international fraudster, Hushpuppi and members of his gang in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and their subsequent extradition to the United States on the heels of an earlier arrest of nine Nigerians in America for fraud to the tune of $3.5million, it is needless to say that Nigeria and Nigerians are back in the eye of the storm, becoming, once again, the butt of mockery in the global arena.
The situation has become so worrisome as we have been tagged with every negative development and crime in the world. Clearly, our national pride as a nation has been badly assailed and eroded, as Nigeria, in the reckoning of the rest of the world, is again viewed as condoning all societal ills and wrongs that are seriously frowned at in saner societies.
But notwithstanding, a vast majority of Nigeria’s citizens are still making the country proud in different walks of life across the globe. And this underscores the need to showcase this crop of Nigerians positively impacting the society.
Therefore, beginning from the first week of August, we will commence our spotlight on young Nigerians making waves, conquering the odds, rewriting history and positively changing the narrative.
These Nigerians will be celebrated for their hard work, dedication and patriotic spirit, especially having won repute for their entrepreneurial drive, capacity, great work ethic and unswerving probity – values and qualities that are fast disappearing and even becoming rarities in today’s Nigeria.
True to our name, First News will lead other online news platforms to shine spotlight on these notable individuals in a special series tagged, “Exceptional Nigerians.” Watch out!
