ODAHIEKWU OGUNDE, Yenagoa
The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has called on the public, especially those who have complaints against the police, to submit their memoranda to the State Special Committee on Security, SWAT and Human Rights.
The deputy governor, who is the Chairman of the committee, directed that all such memoranda should be submitted to the Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice from Tuesday to Thursday, September 30, 2021.
He explained that the directive was an addition to the earlier pronouncement made by Governor Douye Diri last Sunday during a Special Thanksgiving Service at the King of Glory Chapel, Government House, Yenagoa.
According to the statement, apart from stating the venue for submission of the memoranda, there is the need to inform the public that the new deadline for submission is now Thursday this week and not Friday as earlier announced because of the October 1st holiday.
Consequently, the deputy governor is calling on the public to lodge their written complaints bordering on police brutality with the Committee between 10:00AM and 4:00pm from Tuesday to Thursday this week.
Recall that the governor had directed the committee to immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged death of one Goodluck Oviekeme, a 27-year old youth of Biogbolo community in police detention.
