The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has condemned series of attacks on supporters of its House of Representatives’ candidate, Hon Olumuyiwa Adu, as the party launches deeply into campaigns in Akure South and Akure North, which constitute the federal constituency.
The party specifically accuses the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating attacks on its candidate and his supporters, using political thugs as was the habit in the 2020 governorship election.
A statement issued by the PDP secretary for Akure South Local Government, Mr
S.A Ogedemgbe, said a recent attack on Adu’s campaign office on Oyemekun Road in Akure was aimed at scaring away his supporters.
“But they have forgotten that the love for PDP in Akure South and North is a thing of the mind. The people are not in any way deterred but we appeal to the security agents to help secure our campaign offices and fields against these desperate elements in power,” he urged.
Ogedemgbe said the appeal became expedient following the brazen shooting at Adu’s campaign offices by political thugs suspected to be loyal to the ruling party.
Meanwhile, Adu, during his campaigns at communities in Akure South and North, has assured the people of his resolve to give them adequate representation by ensuring that federal presence is felt in Ondo State.
He particularly expressed displeasure with the deplorable state of federal roads such as the Ilesha-Akure-Benin Road; Shagamu-Ore-Benin cum Ondo-Akure Road, among others.
He also pledged to ensure that most unemployed youths in the area get fixed up, apart from ensuring that peasants and farmers are empowered through federal supports and other grants.
Meanwhile, the PDP governorship candidate in the 2020 governorship, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, (SAN) has commended and the other aspirants for their display of true sportsmanship in the conduct of the primary election that produced Adu as the party’s candidate in the coming by-election.
The Akure North/South Federal Constituency became vacant following the death of its representative, the late Hon. Adedayo Omolafe, in August, last year.
