Police and hunters have rescued Professor Grace Ayanbimpe of the University of Jos and her husband less than 24 hours after they were kidnapped by gunmen.
Professor Ayanbimpe of the Department of Medical Microbiology of the university and her husband were kidnapped by gunmen on Monday at their residence located behind Haske quarters, Lamingo in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
It was gathered that the gunmen contacted the family soon after their abduction and demanded N15 million ransom. However, it could not be established whether any ransom was paid.
According to a family source, the couple after their release unhurt Monday night did not return to their home but were taken to the hospital for examination.
The release of the Prof and her husband was confirmed by the State Police Command, ASP Ubah Ogaba.
According to Ogaba, the couple got rescued by a joint operation of security agents including hunters.
“With the concerted effort of the Police Tactical team Plateau State Command, hunters and vigilantes, the kidnapped victims – Prof Grace Ayanbimpe and her husband Mr Isaac Ayanbimpe – were released unhurt,” he said.
