Ogun State government has picked 33 public schools to use and pilot its modern teaching equipment and infrastructure programme.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, at the 2020-2021 annual quiz competition sponsored by SG Holdings Foundation in Abeokuta. According to Arigbabu, the initiative was to provide world-class teaching aids and Infrastructure for the schools so they could compete with foreign schools.
He, meanwhile, did not reveal the modern equipment and the identity of the 33 schools meant to first benefit from the initiative.
“Other public schools in the state will be considered under the initiative ones we are through with the 33 schools we plan to start with. The idea is to ensure most of them compete well with their counterparts in private primary and secondary schools and even foreign schools.
“We also love and support competitions like this in Ogun state and that is why we have decided to always pay all expenses necessary for any of our student to take part in a competition like this.”
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of SG Holdings, Deji Somoye said that the quiz competition targets to make better the teaching of science and technology in schools.
