Lagos police nab two ex-soldiers, four others for armed robbery, car theft

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended two dismissed soldiers and four other suspects in connection with a series of armed robberies and car thefts.

This announcement was made by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, during a press briefing on Tuesday, where the suspects and the recovered exhibits were paraded.

SP Hundeyin revealed that the two dismissed soldiers were part of a notorious robbery gang specializing in the armed snatching of vehicles from motorists across Lagos State.

The gang reportedly sold the stolen vehicles within the state.

The arrests followed a month-long investigation conducted by the Command’s tactical team based in Surulere, leveraging critical information and thorough investigative efforts.

Three suspects were arrested within Lagos State, while the fourth was apprehended in Ilorin. Among the exhibits recovered were two stolen vehicles.

The investigation disclosed that the gang had been active for an extended period, with the two dismissed soldiers among its four key members. One soldier was dismissed in 2014, and the other in 2017.

“They carried out their crimes wearing full military uniform. Our investigation has so far revealed that the gang has snatched a total of 13 cars, of which two have been recovered. We also seized military uniforms and identity cards bearing various ranks, including Lieutenant Colonel,” SP Hundeyin stated.
