Labour slams Tinubu’s minimum wage assertion as false

Organised Labour has firmly rejected President Bola Tinubu’s assertion that an agreement has been reached on the new national minimum wage, contradicting his statements made during his nationwide broadcast commemorating Democracy Day.

According to Organised Labour, negotiations concluded on Friday, June 7, without reaching a consensus within the Tripartite Committee on the National Minimum Wage.

Instead, two separate figures were proposed: N250,000 by Organised Labour and N62,000 by the government and Organised Private Sector (OPS). These figures were supposed to be submitted to the President for consideration.

In a statement issued by the Acting President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Prince Adewale Adeyanju, Labour emphasized that any claim suggesting an agreement was not only fabricated but would also be vehemently rejected by the Labour movement.

The dispute over the minimum wage agreement highlights the ongoing tension between Labour and the government, underscoring the need for transparent and genuine negotiations to address the concerns of workers and ensure fair compensation in line with the economic realities of the country.
