Suspected gunmen in the early hours of Saturday attacked and razed the country home of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma.
The gunmen, who stormed Uzodinma’s house in Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area of the state, also shot dead two security men on duty before setting the house ablaze.
One of the security men killed was identified as an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
A source, who pleaded anonymity, said cars parked inside the compound and part of the building were set on fire.
Security men on duty were said to have repelled the gunmen, but the two operatives were killed in the process.
Firefighters were said to have been invited to stop the inferno from consuming the entire building.
Security sources, however, said soldiers had been deployed in the area.
State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, confirmed the incident to newsmen.
He also confirmed that two security men at the governor’s house were killed during the attack.
