Governor of Gombe State, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has approved a memo by the state Ministry of Works to use N3.6 billion to install the second phase of solar streetlight covering 42 kilometres.
The governor gave the approval during the State Executive Council meeting presided over by him on Wednesday.
Newsmen were informed after the meeting by the Commissioner for Works, Abubakar Bappah, that the second phase would be completed within three months.
Bappah said, “We are migrating from the conventional power system, which is generators, to solar system. Today, the council has approved the contract for lot two. We decided to take the Gombe township in two lots for ease of administration and delivery.
“This lot two is for our dual carriageway covering a total length of 42 km. Today, the council awarded this contract at a total sum of N3.6bn with a completion period of three months.”
According to him, already, the contractors had begun work on the first lot of the solar installation around the township roads.
