Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi has declared Wednesday (today) as public holiday to mourn the state Commissioner for Infrastructure Concession and Development, Fidelis Nweze, who died following a fatal road accident.
Nweze died on Tuesday after he and his driver got involved in accident while traveling to Enugu State last Saturday.
The deceased, who was a two-time commissioner in the state, was said to have, alongside his driver, rammed the car they were travelling with into a stationary vehicle at the busy Eke Obinagu axis of Enugu North Local Government Area at about 7.30pm.
The commissioner’s death was confirmed by Governor Umahi on Tuesday evening. He said that Nweze died Tuesday morning at the Intensive Care Unit of the Turkish Hospital, Abuja, where all efforts by medical experts were not enough to save his life.
Nweze’s driver, it was learnt, had remained unconscious since Saturday when the accident happened.
Following the tragic death of the commissioner, Umahi declared Wednesday a public in the state to be observed by civil servants, markets, banks, and all public places.
The governor added that the Nigerian flag should be lowered in the state in honour of the deceased commissioner.
