Zamfara State Peoples Democratic Party on Monday requested the Federal High Court in Abuja to sack the Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle from office over his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress.
PDP, in the suit filed by its members, Alhaji Sani Kaura Ahmed and Abubakar Muhammed, said Matawalle has no right to remain the governor of the state having defected to the APC.
According to the suit with reference number FHC/ABJ/CS/489/2021, the plaintiffs contested that the judgment of the Supreme Court had affirmed that the APC had no candidates in the 2019 governorship election in Zamfara State, because it failed to conduct valid primaries.
They requested the court to immediately compel Matawalle and Gusau to resign from their offices to allow the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct a fresh election within three months to enable the PDP to replace them.
Following an ex-parte application the Plaintiffs moved through their lawyer, Mr Kanu Agabi, SAN, Justice Inyang Ekwo issued an order for the court processes to be served on Matawalle through substituted means.
Specifically, the court directed that the processes be served on the Defendants through the National Secretariat of APC in Abuja, even as it adjourned the matter till July 16 for mention
