Social media giant, Twitter, says it is ready to dialogue with the Nigerian government over the recent suspension of its operations in Nigeria.
Towards this end, Twitter said on Friday that it had informed the Nigerian government of its willingness to meet with it for discussions on how to resolve the dispute.
Last Friday, Federal Government suspended Twitter’s operations in Nigeria, accusing it of allowing its platform to be used to threaten the country’s corporate existence.
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who had announced the suspension, told newsmen on Wednesday that Twitter’s management is seeking a “high-level discussion” to resolve the issue that resulted in its suspension.
Confirming the Mohammed’s comment, Twitter, on Friday, took to its platform, saying, “Today marks one week since Twitter was blocked in Nigeria. We have informed the Nigerian government that we are ready to meet for an open discussion to address mutual concerns and see the service restored.
“We remain advocates for the free and #OpenInternet everywhere. #KeepitOn.”
