The new Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Dr. Mahmoud Mariya, is not a neophyte in governance. She has tested the waters and left behind worthy commendations that made her to be nominated for her new higher calling.
To be a minister is not a tea party. One must have proved his or her mettle in the little things she had earlier been priviledged to handle. The 45-year-old Mariya is noted for her commitment to hardwork, loyalty and to duty in ensuring that those targets of her principal are met.
An unassuming politician who believes any position you find yourself, put in the best so that posterity might be kind when history is being recalled. She is a workaholic and people around her can attest to her desire to leave a benchmark thereafter.
Leaders are born and not made. Today Dr Mariya Mahmoud is shaking hands again with destiny with her swearing-in as Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where she has slowly but steadily climbed the ladder of success, leaving a trail of remarkable achievements
She is a team player that motivates and influence those around her and working with her to deliver desirable goals. A former commissioner in Kano State in charge of Higher Education, she has been able to manage her time effectively and prioritize workload through premium service delivery.
Leaders are born and not made. Today Dr Mariya Mahmoud is shaking hands again with destiny with her swearing-in as Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where she has slowly but steadily climbed the ladder of success, leaving a trail of remarkable achievements.
As the new Minister of State for FCT, she is expected, going by her antecedents, to hit the ground running. She has to take into consideration a tour of the six Area Councils of the FCT so as to get first hand assessment of what is on ground.
She is a young woman in a hurry but resolute to write her own history. She bowed to the overpowering zeal to serve humanity. Her strength of character and no-nonsense reputation for getting results have made this passionate political amazon from Kano State to prove that success is no respecter of gender but favours hard work, tenacity and purpose. She proved that as a commissioner in her home state.
Success is not accidental, neither is it served a la carte; you have to go for it! Whether you are a man or woman, young or old, the only thing that separates leaders from others, winners from losers, is their dedication and perseverance in bringing true change into anything they do.
She represents a new age of politicians who are deploying their technocratic expertise in creating innovative policies and taking the responsibility for effecting change in the society.
History has a way of throwing up persons with a difference to sharpen its perspective in any given epoch. Politicians are seldom known to think of tomorrow. It is statesmen who do so. She falls in the later grouping.
It appears that even in her stride, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud has already commenced efforts to stamp her feet in history as a woman who utilised her office to make a profound difference in the lives of the people, especially rural dwellers.
To some on the political landscape, who is Mariya, the new helmsman that will as from today, be in charge of the six Area Councils in the FCTA. One that has to navigate the co-ordination of the traditional rulers in the FCT, and have about five Mandate Secretariats she would superintend as Minister of State. Certainly she will have a handful of responsibilities.
Who then is Mariya once again? She is an unassuming daugher of Kano State from Bunkure Local Government Area. A diligent, family and public health Physician, and an erudite educationist, who is highly organised and efficient with a thorough and precise approach to engagements, which have produced excellent results for her in her endeavours.

By dint of hard work, she has shown rare promise, indicating penetrating vision and a clear grasp of issues that will enable her discharge the various responsibilities of her office, despite teething challenges.
Not a a green horn in politics; apart from being a commissioner, she was a member of Kano State Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council 2022/23. She was also the chairperson of the Welfare Sub Committee, Women Wing.
A member of the High powered Implementation committee for the establishment of College of Health Sciences at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil. Member Kano State Steering committee on Education; Member, Governing council, Maryam Abacha University Kano and a member of the Kano State Committee on Prevention of Drug Abuse among Youth.
She is a member of the Society for Family Physician of Nigeria (SOFPON). Nigeria Medical Association (NMA); member Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) and Treasurer, Association of Resident Doctors (AKTH) Medical Women Association (MWAN).
Some of the awards in her kitty include but not limited to Award of Honour, Ministry for Higher Education, Kano State 2023; Award of Honour : Medical Women’s Association 2023; Distinguish Merit Award : Nigeria Focus Achievers International Magazine 2022; and Kano Influencers Award; Christ Embassy North west Zone 2022.
Indeed, with a new dawn on the horizon, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud may well be marking an indelible footprint on the sands of time as an irrepressible Amazon of change and an astute administrator.
Once again, let’s raise the glass and klink the tumblers as Abuja welcomes Mariya Mahmoud as Minister Of State FCT.
