Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike said on Monday that the state would not vote for politicians who believe votes from the state do not matter to them.
He stated this on Monday at the inauguration of the Orochiri-Worukwo (Waterlines junction) Flyover by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in Port Harcourt.
He said, “If you say Rivers State does not matter, Rivers State will tell you that you don’t also matter at the appropriate time. If you don’t like us, we will not like you. If you like us, we will like you.
“Nobody will use our votes for nothing. Our votes will matter and Rivers State must benefit from anybody that we are going to support.
“Politics now is no longer just voting for somebody, it is about what you will do for the people of Rivers State.”
The presidential candidate of Wike’s Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, was said to have recently claimed that he can emerge as the next president in 2023 without the support of Wike and Rivers State.
It was not clear if Wike was referring to him as the Rivers State governor said that it would be difficult for any conspirators to upset the voting pattern of the state and support for the PDP in the forthcoming 2023 elections.
