Scores of Yoruba people in Benin Republic, on Wednesday, stormed the Court of Appeal in the country’s capital, Cotonou, over the planned arraignment of the detained Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho.
Igboho’s arraignment before the Beninioise Appellate court was part of the preliminary processes for the Yoruba Nation activist’s extradition to Nigeria.
Igboho was arrested, on Tuesday, alongside his wife, who is a German citizen, by the INTERPOL in Cotonou while attempting to board a flight to Germany.
In a two-minute video, which went viral on social media on Wednesday, an unidentified speaker was seen assuring Igboho’s supporters to be calm.
He told the activist’s agitated supporters that “Igboho is all right, but has not gone to Germany” as being speculated on social media.
Two others unidentified speakers in the video then took turns to allay the fears of the people over Igboho’s well-being.
The people then burst out singing the Yoruba anthem, which they punctuated with the chanting of “Yoruba Nation Now!’ “No going back!”
