Mrs Boladale Bamidele, the mother of Bolutife, a Cairo-based man burnt to death by his wife, Ifeoluwa, in Koka, Osun State, said on Saturday that jealousy must have driven his son’s wife to carry out the murderous act.
Last Sunday, Ifeoluwa had set ablaze Bolutife in their Koka, Osun State home, for allegedly having an extramarital affair, which led to having a child outside wedlock.
The incident had left Bolutife seriously injured with first degree burns while his wife fled the scene.
But Bolutife eventually died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Police subsequently launched a manhunt for Ifeoluwa, who was said to have committed suicide last Thursday after taking a poisonous substance.
The distraught mother of Bolutife while speaking with newsmen on Saturday, said he was her last child.
She added that Ifeoluwa usually check through her husband’s phone.
Bolutife’s mother said the couple got married in September last year, adding that some members of the family initially kicked against Bolutife getting married to Ifeoluwa, but her son insisted and stood his ground on taking her as his wife.
She said, “Apart from her being a jealous type, she was decent as a lady. She was not adulterous. She was able to last that long in our house because she was not involved in indecent acts as a young lady but she used to check through her husband’s phone.
“Whenever she did that after she observed that he was chatting with anyone, even if the person was Bolutife’s elder in the family, she would become jealous.
“That was her only flaw and I used to talk to her to desist from such acts. Some members of the family opposed Bolutife having her as a wife but my son insisted that she was the one he liked.”
