Tragedy struck during Saturday’s Yoruba Nation mega rally as an unidentified young girl was hit and killed by a stray bullet in the pandemonium that occurred when security operatives opened fire to disperse agitators gathering for the Yoruba Nation mega rally at the Ojota Park, Lagos.
Violence erupted at the rally, which began with singing and chanting, when security operatives shot sporadically and teargassed the protesters.
This created panic, chaos and pandemonium as many ran helter-skelter for their lives.
The young girl’s lifeless body was later discovered around the scene of the violence.
Sympathisers were observed wailing around the corpse of the young victim.
Some residents of the area claimed that violence broke out at the rally venue as the young girl was about to open a shop.
They claimed that it was during the melee created by the sporadic gunshots from the security operatives that a stray bullet hit and killed the young girl.
Residents also claimed that a team of police later stormed the scene and took away the young girl’s corpse to an unknown destination.
